l'histoire
South Of Nowhere est une série américaine toujours en production créée par Tom Lynch en 2005.
L'histoire se concentre sur Spencer Carlin, une adolescente de 16 ans qui vient de quitter l'Ohio avec sa famille pour emménager à Los Angeles. Spencer à deux frères, Glen, 17 ans, un sportif imbu de lui-même et star du basket-ball et Clay, un adolescent de 17 ans également très intelligent qui a été adopté à l'âge de huit ans. Arthur, le père de famille est travailleur social alors que Paula, la maman est médecin.
Au lycée, Spencer fait la connaissance d'Ashley qui se dit lesbienne ( je met qui se dit car il y a quand même une intrigue avec un mec). Les deux adolescentes deviennent amies et au contact d'Ash, Spencer commence à s'interroger sur sa propre sexualité, ses désirs et son identité.
Glen, de son côté, devient rapidement la vedette du lycée en tant que joueur fétiche de l'équipe de basket-ball. Il séduit la capitaine des pom-poms girls, Madison, l'ex-petite amie d'Aiden, également joueur de basket. Pour trouver sa place de l'équipe, Glen s'oppose régulièrement à Aiden et leurs relations deviennent très tendues. Concentré sur sa popularité, les filles et son jeu, l'avenir de Glen est cependant remis en question par une sérieuse blessure qui compromet ses chances de rejouer un jour.
Clay, en tant qu'adolescent noir dans une famille blanche, s'interroge sur sa place dans la société. Conscient de sa différence et du racisme qui règne en Amérique, il se rapproche de Sean, un garçon très intelligent qui semble concerné par les inégalités de leur société .
Les parents ne sont pas épargnés puisque le couple formé par Arthur et Paula montre des signes d'essoufflement. Paula semble s'intéresser à son patron, un ami de la faculté de médecine qu'elle n'a pas oublié et Arthur ne sait comment réagir. Très proche de ses enfants, il prend leur défense contre Paula à plusieurs reprises, au grand dam de celle-ci.
